There’s a version of you with money you haven’t met yet.
I realize this sounds suspiciously like I’m about to tell you to close your eyes, picture your future self and ask what she’s wearing.
I’m not.
I’m much more interested in what she believes.
Somewhere between the money life you have today and the Top 5% of Your Money Potential, you’re going to change your mind about a lot of things. Including yourself.
This is one of the strange things about money. We take our current experience with it and give that experience tremendous authority over what comes next.
Your current money results don’t reveal anything definitive about your Top 5% that you’re capable of creating.
I remember early in my business when I had managed to save $3,000.
Three thousand dollars.
If you had shown me a picture of my future bank account with $1 million sitting there in cash, I’m not sure what I would have stared at longer, the number or my name above it.
There was nothing about having $3,000 that suggested $1 million was waiting somewhere in my future. No logical progression from one to the other. No evidence I could point to and say, “See? Clearly this woman is on her way to seven figures in cash.”
Yet I was.
If I had treated $3,000 as evidence of my capacity, I would have given one tiny chapter of my money story the authority to write the ending.
Women do this with money all the time. We look at what exists and make assumptions about what is possible. Which is a peculiar thing for an entrepreneur to do.
Entrepreneurship itself requires a willingness to create something before there is evidence that it will exist. You create an offer nobody has yet purchased, decide you want clients you haven’t met, put a number on a revenue goal your business has yet to achieve and proceed as though this is a perfectly sensible way to spend your life.
Then we get to money and suddenly everyone wants documentation.
I created the concept of Top 5% of Your Money Potential because I want women entrepreneurs reaching so far beyond the money life they already know that their beliefs, expectations and identity have to expand to meet the potential they’re claiming.
What does the Top 5% of your money potential look like?
There is an obvious way to answer this question, which is with numbers. Money has numbers attached to it, and I want your ambition specific enough that you know exactly what you’re claiming.
But after more than two decades as a money mentor to women entrepreneurs, the question goes much deeper than the numbers.
Who are you when you are experiencing the Top 5% of Your Money Potential?
There are beliefs you have about money today that feel completely true because you have spent years collecting evidence for them. We are all terribly convincing when describing ourselves.
“I’m this kind of person.”
“This is how I am with money.”
As though somewhere there is a permanent file on us and someone has laminated it.
There isn’t.
Your Top 5% is not asking you to simply add more money to the woman you already are.
It asks you to discover what else you’re capable of believing about money and what else you’re capable of believing about yourself with it.
That’s where this gets challenging. If every belief about your future with money has to be supported by your past with money, your past wins by default.
Of course the woman who has never created $500,000 cannot produce a stack of evidence proving she can create $500,000.
Of course the woman who has spent years seeing herself one way with money cannot already know everything about the woman she will be after years of expanding that relationship.
She hasn’t lived it yet.
At some point, reaching for the Top 5% requires you to give a new belief more authority than the evidence sitting in front of you.
There are beliefs about money you have repeated enough times that they now sound like facts. There are expectations you inherited so early you don’t remember choosing them. And conclusions you reached based on experiences that were completely real and still have no business determining the rest of your life.
Your Top 5% puts all of it back on the table.
What are you willing to believe about the amount of money you can have and your ability to create it?
What becomes possible when your beliefs about money are created for where you’re going instead of where you’ve been?
This is where you begin discovering a version of yourself with money you haven’t experienced yet.
She isn’t simply you with more money. She has expanded enough to have a different perspective on money itself.
She knows what happens when she stops editing an ambition to make it agree with her history and chooses a new belief before there is a reassuring pile of evidence underneath it.
Your Top 5% refuses to give what you have already experienced the authority to define what you are capable of experiencing next.
Most of all, it refuses the idea that the woman you know yourself to be with money today is the final version of you with money.
And that version of you, you haven’t met yet is going to exist for one reason:
You were willing to expand far enough to discover her.
