Gratitude journaling is very 1990s. I know. I was there. 😉
Write down five things you’re grateful for. Appreciate what you have. Focus on the positive. Preferably in a beautiful journal purchased specifically for becoming a more grateful person.

There’s nothing wrong with any of that. But the kind of gratitude I’m talking about goes much deeper, especially as a woman entrepreneur whose income can swing from one month to the next.
Million Dollar Gratitude is gratitude that doesn’t need your circumstances to cooperate first.
This is gratitude that doesn’t wait for the payment to clear, the client to say yes, the launch to work or the bank balance to give you permission to feel good.
If gratitude only arrives after something goes your way, your circumstances are still in charge of your emotional wealth.
It’s easy to feel abundant when money is flowing in. It’s easy to appreciate your business after a fabulous month. It’s easy to trust yourself when the evidence is sitting right there in your bank account.
The real opportunity is being able to access gratitude before the evidence arrives.
Stop Making Gratitude Wait For The Result
One of my favorite ways to practice this is ridiculously simple: I feel grateful for money before it arrives.
Before the payment clears, or a client says yes, or before I know how the month will turn out.
This isn’t pretending money has arrived when it hasn’t or trying to manifest a Stripe payment through sheer enthusiasm.
It’s refusing to make my emotional wealth dependent on today’s circumstances.
There is an enormous difference between I’ll feel grateful when I have a reason to versus gratitude is something I know how to create.
Otherwise, you’ve essentially put your sense of abundance on a month-to-month performance review.
Uncertainty Can Make You Forget What You Already Have
One of the trickiest things about uncertainty is how quickly your attention can narrow around what isn’t happening.
Uncertainty has impeccable recall for everything that isn’t going well and remarkably poor recall for everything you’ve spent years becoming.
Suddenly, everything you already have as a result of years of being in business gets pushed to the edges of the picture.
Your coaching skills. Your reputation. Your creativity. Your voice. Your experience. Your ability to create ideas, solve problems, sell, serve clients and figure things out.
A disappointing result can change what happened this month. It cannot erase what you know, what you’ve created, or who you’ve become along the way.
These aren’t consolation prizes you appreciate because the month didn’t go the way you wanted. They are valuable assets you possess on your best revenue day and your worst one.
Gratitude has a way of correcting uncertainty’s very selective memory.
It lets you look at an uncertain moment without allowing that moment to become the entire story of what you have.
Give Your Brain Better Receipts
Our brains can be remarkably selective historians.
One difficult month? Vivid detail.
The dozens of times money arrived unexpectedly, an opportunity appeared, a client said yes or you solved a problem you initially had no idea how to solve?
Apparently those files have been misplaced. So bring them back.
I love keeping what I think of as money memories: specific moments when money showed up in surprising, meaningful or powerful ways.
Ask yourself, What are five times money came to you in a way you couldn’t have predicted?
This isn’t using the past to guarantee the future. You’re simply reminding yourself that today’s uncertainty doesn’t erase everything you’ve already experienced and created.
Who Said Gratitude Had To Be So Modest?
When fear starts spinning a dramatic prediction about the future, gratitude helps me remember there’s more available to focus on than what I’m afraid will happen.
When I catch myself focusing exclusively on what didn’t happen, I can deliberately remember what did.
None of this requires me to deny reality, pretend I love uncertainty or slap a positive thought over a real concern.
Being Grateful For What You Have Doesn’t Mean You Stop Wanting More.
And wanting more doesn’t have to make what you have today feel insufficient. I have every intention of creating significantly more money, more opportunities, and more of what I want.
I also want to deeply appreciate the money, opportunities, and abundance that are already here.
The more I practice gratitude, the less it feels like something I perform after life hands me good news. It becomes part of who I am with money.
Here’s my coaching question for you:
What could you feel deeply grateful for with money today, before anything else changes?
Gratitude is one powerful expression of who you are with money. But your money identity reaches into every part of your money story: how much you make, how much you keep, how generously you pay yourself, and the future you create with money.
